architecture.

July: Sue Bennett will walk to our peaceful and tranquil Cemetery
and talk about its history inside the fascinating Cemetery Chapels.

OdSoc commends this event in aid of the Cross Barn.
Enjoy a sumptuous tea and return to the atmosphere of the 1930s, with a
terribly tempting talk about cakes, kings, crockery, fads and fashions
from Lucy Adlington. Please contact Barbara Igra if you wish to sit on
the OdSoc table.

WEDNESDAY MAY 22nd VISIT TO ST MARY’S CHURCH, HARTLEY WINTNEY
A fascinating visit to the redundant Anglican church
under the care of the Church’s Conservation Trust. St Mary’s was built
by the nuns of Wintney Priory in the 13th century and is now Grade II
listed. The churchyard contains the graves of two notable military
figures: Henry Hawkley, who defeated Bonnie Prince Charlie at the Battle
of Culloden, and Field Marshall Lord Alanbrooke, adviser to Winston
Churchill.
There will be a talk in the candlelit Church followed by an opportunity
to walk around the Churchyard. The talk will start at 6.30 p.m. and last
about an hour. No charge, but please make a donation to the Church Fund.
TUESDAY JUNE 11th VISIT TO RAF ODIHAM
An unusual opportunity for an afternoon visit and
conducted tour of RAF Odiham. Numbers are limited so book early.
MONDAY JUNE 24th A GUIDED TOUR OF ROYAL HOLLOWAY COLLEGE,
EGHAM
A great chance to see inside this magnificent
building.
TUESDAY JULY 23rd GUIDED TOUR OF UPTON GREY.
Tour will start at 6.30 p.m. and end by about 8.00
p.m. Meet in the car park at the Hoddington Arms. No charge, but please
make a donation to the Church Fund.
FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 13th TALK FOLLOWED BY HARVEST SUPPER IN AID
OF THE ODIHAM EMBROIDERY PROJECT
Derek Spruce will talk on Agriculture, an Overview
from 1068 to the Present Day. This will be followed by a traditional
Harvest Supper in aid of the Odiham Embroidery Project. Evening begins
at 7.00 p.m.
SATURDAY 14th – SUNDAY 15th SEPTEMBER. HERITAGE WEEKEND
A weekend based at the Cross Barn that will focus on
our agricultural heritage and archaeology. 10 am to 4 pm each day. Enjoy
refreshments, interrogate the digitised Tithe Map, view displays, meet
friends, listen to memories of Odiham Past, join walks, keep up-to-date
with progress of the embroidery.
